I've been going to Chastains for years. I've always had great service and it's a great place to get gifts for special occasions. I saw an ad for a certain ring, showed it them and they were able to special order it - and for a better price than the other store wanted. I know this isn't typical, but they went out of their way to make sure I was happy with my purchase.
This is a great store, customer service is the best and a good selection of merchandise. The prices were surprisingly reasonable and its a locally owned store which is where I like to shop.
This event occurred a few weeks ago. I took my husbands watch in to be repaired, because it had a broken spring pin and brought all the pieces to the watch as well, along with the broken spring pin to show the problem. I worked directly with the store manager Linda Dowling. I wasn’t in any rush to have it fixed, so I would have had no problem waiting for the jewelry repair man to come in and fix it. However, the store manager (Linda) said she could fix it herself and it would only take a couple minutes. I wasn’t in any hurry, so I was willing to wait. It only took her about 5 minutes or less to “fix” it. After she was done, she showed it to me briefly moving the watch a little to where I couldn’t actually tell if it was fixed or not. She put it back in the box I brought it in, and charged me for the cost of a new watch link, about $15-16. When I got home and opened the watch, the band fell right off, because SHE PUT THE BROKEN SPRING PIN BACK IN THE WATCH AND CHARGED ME FOR “FIXING” IT. I paid for nothing- she put the same old part that I brought in with the watch back in it. I came back about 2-3 days later with my husband and explained the problem and brought the receipt. I spoke with a customer service lady at the desk, as the manager was not in but she was on the phone with the lady at the front desk. I explained what happened and told her that I wanted a refund because I was not satisfied with the service. At this point, I ordered a new spring pin to fix it myself, since I was disappointed with the stores service. The manager told the lady at the desk, that she couldn’t refund me because there was labor involved. I told the lady that it took her AT MOST 5 minutes to NOT fix it, I hardly consider that labor. Plus labor only counts if the job was actually done. What kind of scamming business is this? To charge someone to put A BROKEN PART BACK IN THE WATCH? She offered to leave the watch to be fixed again, or to bring in the spring pin that I bought and they would put it in, but they would not refund me. They weren’t even willing to offer a store credit for the measly $15 (which is a lot to me, because we don’t have a lot of money), that wouldn’t cost the company anything! So they wanted me to give them a part that I paid for to put in? Or I had to trust that they would actually fix it a second time??? I can’t speak for the actual repair man, as I have never worked with him, and I am sure he does a great job. However, the point of this review was to explain how terrible the management is at the store, and I have made sure to tell anyone I know looking for jewelry or repairs to NOT EVER go to this store, as the manager is dishonest and a scammer. I never leave reviews, but since I was so appalled at the service received I felt like I should so no one else goes through this. I attached a photo of the broken spring pin, that shows the end of the left side of the spring pin, clearly is broken and doesn't have the little part like on the right side where the pin goes in the watch link.
The staff here is amazing, helpful and polite. The manager is kinda easy on the eyes as well. Great selection and prices. Huge variety of items in all price ranges.
