When buying gas, all stations set an amount and later adjust for actual dollars spent. My local gas station just used $1 to make sure the card is valid. This station used $125 . While they adjust it down to what you really bought in a day or so, meanwhile if you have a low credit limit you end up with $125 less so you could have trouble if you need to make additional purchases somewhere using that card. If you buy something inside the store they use the exact amount. So not sure why gas charges are not done the same way.
